Substacks I Love is a new, infrequent series where I share and recommend publications that inform and inspire me. Enjoy!
Over the last year or so, I developed a process I call Be a Blessing Marketing. The premise is you don’t need to spend 80% of your time (or more) learning how to be a digital marketer in order to spend 20% of your time (or less) doing the work you love.1
Instead, you can turn the work you love to do into your marketing and sales success system. In addition to being way more fulfilling, the Be a Blessing approach helps you hone your craft and more effortlessly become the preeminent choice in your market.2
Be a Blessing Marketing was, in part, born of necessity. I had to reduce the time I spent in my business in order to provide full-time daycare for my grandson, Jasper,
But Be a Blessing Marketing was also born of iterations on ideas I learned from Laurel Portié, the best marketing and ad strategist I’ve ever met, and Nic Peterson, author of Bumpers, a book Laurel gave me that provided principles and practices allowing me to craft the business (and life) of my dreams.
Laurel and Nic are now mentors and friends. Like Seth Godin, another friend and mentor, Laurel and Nic believe your business should fundamentally reflect your values, exist to serve others, and be promoted ethically and with empathy.
Laurel and Nic collaborate on a Substack publication about marketing and sales called Man Bites Dog. In it, they organize their best practices for promoting the difference you make with intention and integrity.
I love this publication and the community Laurel and Nic have built around it.

If you want additional Man Bites Dog recommendations, send me a DM (direct message). I’m happy to recommend other articles and share my experience as a member of their Success Circle program.
Laurel, along with Dr. Jeff Spencer, also collaborates with Nic on The Arena. You can check that out here.
If you’ve followed me for any time, you know I believe the company you keep is the biggest force multiplier for your success in life and business. I’m lucky to be closely associated with people like Laurel and Nic. I share them with you so we can all work together to make things better doing work that matters with people we care about.
Holler if you have any questions.
Be well. Do good. Have fun!
Scott
